After listening to this album I had to say welcome back to the female emcee and listen to this album again. And for them Nicki fans who just got mad after that one line, your girl is a rapper and if you don’t know the difference go back and do some research. This chick Rapsody got skills and this is exhibited throughout the album, from her story telling ability on tracks like “In The Town”or the ease with which she puts to together on a track like “Round Table Discussion”.
Let’s get to the first thing that I think a lot of people think of when they hear a new female emcee, is she the new Lauren Hill? And the answer is no but that is not a knock on Rapsody because let’s face it they will never be another Ms Hill and once you accept that you can enjoy Rapsody for what she is, a terrific talent in an industry that promotes average talents. From the onset the album sets it’s tempo at slow and continues this with the hit after hit of soulful beats, which was something I was expecting since it’s executive producer is 9th Wonder. This sound provides the perfect backdrop for Rapsody to do her thing since it allows you to actually take time to hear the tracks and appreciate the lyricism of this sister. And believe me it sounds good after all the party tracks and one dimensional mass produced rap we are forced to listen to on a daily. In her content Rapsody is pretty honest as she delves through issues of her struggle on the come up and consequences of living reckless. If I was to knock one thing about Rapsody it has to be the flow, you get the sense as you listen of an artist who is rapping within herself like on the track Thunder were although she’s boosting about her ability they is new fire to her delivery as you would expect from blowing their own horn.
In terms of standout tracks like I said earlier, this is a joint with a single soulful musical theme so you have to peep and choose for yourselves what you like, as for me my personal favourite track is Destiny. In all The Idea of Beautiful is very good first outing from the Lady Rapsody and a great ad for the female emcee. I can’t wait for her next offering and to all y’all support Rapsody and cop this album.
