Channel O is a TV frequency which has for over ten years positioned itself as the most regarded outlet for showcasing African music talent and videos to the world.

It has been recently reported that the Channel has been kicked off the pecking order by competitive channels including Sound city, MTV Base and even Trace and Hip TV.

According to communications manager for Multichoice Ghana, Anne Sackey, who confirmed the shutdown in an email, the move is to allow M-Net to create customised music content according to regional preferences on its existing Africa Magic brands.

The channel will terminate on 31st March 2015. At 23:59 CAT Channel O Africa will stop airing on DStv channel 320 and GOtv channel 70 to allow M-Net to refocus its strategy to achieve a more efficient and streamlined approach that will enhance subscribers’ television experience by providing them with more regionalised content.

In the meantime music lovers can continue to enjoy various local and international music genres on other music channels on the DStv platform: MTV Base, Trace Urban, Afro Music Pop, Sound City, B4U Music and One Gospel and on the GOtv platform: MTV Base and One Gospel.

It will be confirmed if the ChO Music Awards will still be held annually.

Opportunities will be created over time to highlight music and musicians on the Africa Magic General Entertainment Channels and music blocks/segments will be included on the existing General Entertainment channels. M-Net will establish music blocs on Africa Magic World (GOtv channel 10 and DStv channel 155) where subscribers will be able to catch their favourite local music talent and videos,”
